ONCE UPON A TIME IN, MAHOE BAY…
Our Virgin Gorda Villa History
The beauty and natural wonders of the British Virgin Islands have been the talk of the town for a long time. Among several islands is Virgin Gorda, an area of rich history and culture, friendly people, beautiful beaches, and crystal-clear water.
In July 2021, we were privileged to become the new owners of Adagio Villa after the original owners, Brain and Marion Macdonald who built and took care of this charming property.
What distinguishes the Villa from many others are its unique features including its size (5 ocean-view bedrooms), excellent design (2 buildings separated by a pool/patio), heavy-duty construction, and its unmatched location on Mahoe Bay, Virgo Gorda. Adagio also shares access to an excellent, artificial turf tennis court in Mahoe Bay. If you’re a tennis lover, like us, you’ll enjoy playing tennis on the nearby court in the sunshine with a warm sea breeze!
ABOUT THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
Nature's Little Secret
The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is a collection of 60 islands, cays, and rocks forming the northern extremity of the Leeward Islands in the eastern Caribbean. BVI is located 62 miles to the east of Puerto Rico. It is known for its balmy, subtropical climate. An average temperature approximates to 85 degrees Fahrenheit; however, at night, the temperature drops to a range between 4-8 degrees.
LOCAL FLAVOURS IN VIRGIN GORDA, BVI
Cooking, Catering & Takeout
No experience is complete without exquisite food! Virgin Gorda has a unique collection of food that makes your heart melt! Gourmet chefs are always pleased to cook you special meals in addition to unique selections from their repertoire of Caribbean cuisine. The island also has many restaurants that offer dine-in as well as take-out / takeaway and delivery services.
Groceries & Provisions
There are several high-quality grocery stores in Spanish Town about 5 minutes away from the villa. One of the most known, “Buck’s and Riteway” (formerly known as RTW), has modern premises that cater to North American and European tastes and also serves as the main provisioning stops for the many high-end yachts that moor in Yacht Harbor.
You can find almost anything you like at the Grocery stores around – from French champagne to gourmet foods to “hamburger Fixin’s”. There is no need to bring foodstuff with you from home to eat well in Virgin Gorda; the whole island has plenty of these! Prices are in the range of 5% to 10% higher than in the US or Canada for most foodstuffs due to shopping costs; however, liquor, beer, and cigarettes are in line with mainland prices. Most meat in grocery stores comes from the US and is of premium quality; it is served by regular container shipments from Florida.

BVI WEATHER & CLIMATE
The Sun is Free
The tropical climate of the British Virgin Islands, and especially Virgin Gorda, is semi-arid. The warm, breezy atmosphere is the result of trade winds that constantly blow from the east to the west throughout the year. The 3,000 miles of the ocean allow the trade wind to traverse before hitting Virgin Gorda, thus keeping the air fresh!
Live Local Weather
Inclement Weather
The entire Eastern Caribbean only experiences a few weather events a year.
While the official Inclement weather season in the British Virgin Islands spans from June through November, it’s extremely rare for tropical weather events to occur between August through September.
Given the small risk that a hurricane might actually impact your plans, you might consider taking advantage of the off-season and use some of your savings from the lower rates to purchase travel insurance.
Through our expertise, we’ve come to discover that hurricane paths tend to be narrow, and many “peter out” most of the time – even before ever striking landfall.
