Night Life and Entertainment on Virgin Gorda:

Virgin Gorda is a laid back island known for quiet relaxation and peace.  However there are a number of venues for entertainment throughout the island and all are easily accessible by rental car or Taxi.  The roads are easy to navigate so even the most cautious driver will not have a problem navigating the island at night.

Here are a few of our favorite places:

Coco Maya:

Located near the Rock Cafe toward the beach, this upscale laid-back restaurant has great food and service.  Many nights the restaurant features live entertainment or a DJ.  Sitting right on the beach it is a perfect place for sunset watching while hitting happy hour.

Chez Bamboo:

Located near the ferry dock and Spanish Town's Yacht Harbor this is a fine restaurant with live bands on Friday nights starting around 10:00 PM.  The bands are high quality - there is usually a cover charge of but if you have dinner there admission is included.  The restaurant has a bar area and dance floor to the right of the main entrance.  If you are at the villa during Halloween, Christmas or some other special occasion the restaurant is sure to put on a special party.

Bath and Turtle/Rendezvous Bar:

Located inside the courtyard at the Yacht Harbor complex (Rendezvous is located adjacent to the parking lot at Yacht Harbour) these casual restaurants host a DJ or band on Wednesday nights starting about 9:00 PM.  Locals and visiting yacht crews make this a place to meet many sailors transiting the Caribbean.  Its a favorite place of ours for a quick Roti, hamburger or pizza.

The Rock Cafe:

Located near the roundabout on the road toward the Baths is a restaurant that is really three entertainment areas in one.  The Rock is  a great place for a meal outside with tables on various levels amongst huge boulders that dot the landscape on the south end of Virgin Gorda.  Inside there is a piano bar and dining area - the piano bar features several entertainers that range from classic pop tunes to renditions and imitations of famous rock stars.  Entertainment of this sort starts around 8:00 PM and usually goes until 1:00 AM most days except Mondays.  On a number of Saturday nights throughout the year the Rock hosts live bands on the second story patio above the main restaurant however this is more ideally suited to teens and others who don't mind great music with an edge.  A cover charge is in place for those occasions.

The Mineshaft Restaurant at Copper Mine Point:

On the most south easterly point of the island, the Mineshaft restaurant serves good food, and their Tuesday night "All you can eat rib dinner" is not to be missed, with local entertainment many nights of the week.  Sunday morning/afternoon brunch usually features a "fungi" band made up of local musicians playing authentic island music on washboards and other miscellaneous instruments - quite an experience if you've never heard "fungi" before  - watch out though you may be recruited to sing.  Try their signature drink called the "Cave-In". Try two if you dare.

Leverick Bay Restaurant and BBQ:

Located in North Sound at Leverick Bay there is a great restaurant upstairs from the Pusser's store which serves excellent beef and seafood dishes.  Generally the restaurant has nightly entertainment however on Friday nights starting about 7:00 PM the restaurant hosts a beach BBQ next to the pool with music by the "Latitude" a Caribbean steel pan band.  For the entertainment of youngsters of all ages a performance by the "Mocko Jumbies", a local group of stilt walkers and dancers also performs place starting around 7:30 PM and going until about 8:30 PM.  Parking is limited and it is often quite crowded during high season (November to April) but well worth the trip at least once during your stay.   If you are hesitant about driving over the hills of the North Sound have a taxi pick you up a the villa for the trip to the other side of Mount Gorda.

Mad Dog's:

Open from about 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM this is technically not a night spot but no trip to Virgin Gorda would be complete without a BLT or Tuna Sandwich and a couple of cold Carib beers served by the bar keep at Mad Dog's.  Mad Dog's serves as a jumping off place for many a night of partying.  You will meet a host of island characters that make it a daily ritual to pass by and have a cold one.

Jumbie Shack - South Sound:

A little difficult to get to but well worth the visit, the Jumbie Shack is located on the south sound road off of the road to Gun Creek at the North Sound.  A true beach bar that celebrates the Full Moon with a party and loads of fun.  As with Leverick, a taxi may be the best way to navigate the North Sound roads at night.

Anything Goes:

A true local gathering place. This small bar/restaurant is located in Spanish Town and serves as a place where you can have a cold one and meet many of the local population.  It is not usually frequented by first time guests but once you've been back to Virgin Gorda a few times and get to know some of the locals this bar is a place to meet and rekindle old friendships.

Special Events:

Halloween:

Celebrate Halloween at Chez Bamboo - many of the staff from Little Dix and from the various day sailing outfits along with many guest dress up in costumes (from whatever can be scrounged up) and party to the wee small hours.  Several very high quality bands such as Faze 2 and Oxygen perform Rock music and Reggae pieces.

Christmas Eve Night:

The bars at the top of the hill leading down to the North Sound bring in bands and happy hour prices are in effect for this very lively dancing in the  street party which starts around 11:00 PM and goes to sunrise.  The boats in the North Sound are all lit up for Christmas and present a marvelous sight as you party the hours away.

Christmas Dinner:

The Fat Virgin Restaurant holds a special Christmas dinner which is quite a family affair.  Many sailors and villa guests love to take in the fine food and great hospitality that Esther and her crew provide.
